💡 A Brief History of Father’s Day
The idea of Father’s Day goes back over 100 years, first gaining momentum in Spokane, Washington in 1910. A woman named Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to honor her father, a Civil War veteran and single dad who raised six kids on his own. She thought if mothers had a day, fathers deserved one too.
It caught on slowly, but by 1972, President Nixon made it official: Father’s Day became a national holiday in the U.S.
